A busy day of trading in Major League Soccer netted a solution to D.C. United's most glaring on-field need yesterday as the club acquired all-star defender Diego Sonora from the New York/New Jersey MetroStars.
One of the best right backs in MLS, Sonora, 29, was acquired in a complicated three-way trade involving the San Jose Clash.
The MetroStars were significantly over Major League Soccer's $1.7 million salary cap, and jettisoning Sonora to San Jose helped them get under the spending limit.
