With the loss of free agent Tony Sanneh to Germany, D.C. United now has enough salary cap room that should allow it to keep scoring leader Roy Lassiter.
United still needs to make a significant roster move to get under Major League Soccer's $1.7 million salary cap. But had Sanneh re-signed with United, the team would have been forced to trade two players to get under the cap. However, Sanneh officially signed with German first division club Hertha Berlin yesterday.
United had budgeted about $125,000 for Sanneh and was shopping Lassiter and midfielder John Harkes to accommodate the cap.
