Jameylee West seems to care more about the Endangered Species Act (ESA) than about endangered species ("The Endangered Species Act has done its job," Letters, Jan. 2). Not only has the ESA failed to recover a single endangered or threatened species in its 25-year history, it has turned the ownership of species habitat from an asset into a liability. As I noted in my Dec. 28 commentary, "ESA's dubious track record after 25 years," to which she responded, in many parts of the country, the act is encouraging the destruction of habitat because of the onerous burden it places on landowners.
