DENVER - Gov. Roy Romer yesterday rejected calls for him to appoint a special prosecutor to take over the JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation, and hours later, Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter said he would bring the case before a grand jury in an effort to get more evidence.
Intervening for the first time in the 20-month-old investigation, Mr. Romer said he would bring more expertise to the case by naming one or more deputy district attorneys to aid Mr. Hunter as he prepares the case for the grand jury.
