Kim Shattuck of the Los Angeles punk-pop trio the Muffs has a garden full of philosophies on music-making. But on the morning of this phone interview, there's one in particular she's cultivating within her fertile musical mind.
"I hate repetition," declares Miss Shattuck, whose valley voice barely hints at her sneery, Joan Jettish vocals. "People who use too much repetition use it because they're bad songwriters. They use it to fake a catchy song, but a good song sticks in your head without having it beat in."
