The recent article in The Washington Times stating that 350 District of Columbia government bank accounts were missed in the 1996 audit is both incorrect and misleading. ("350 bank accounts missed during city's 1996 audit," Dec. 17)
The "unreleased report" cited by your reporter is unreleased because it is not complete - yet. The inspector general sent me a draft of this report, asking for comments, which is the standard procedure before releasing the results of an audit.
The District's controller and treasurer are working with the inspector general's auditors to clarify the many inaccuracies in the draft findings so that the inspector general can ...
