Launching a national icon into space is proving to be a NASA public relations bonanza, but scientists believe Sen. John Glenn's second mission also will provide insights into aging.
"Essentially, as we learn more, it becomes apparent that some of the changes that astronauts go through in space are parallel to changes that happen in the aging process," said Dr. David Liskowsky, a NASA program scientist for the flight.
Mr. Glenn, 77, will undergo a number of tests before, during and after his Oct. 29 flight, enabling scientists to observe how his body handles the loss of gravity. By studying how Mr. Glenn's body changes in space, scientists think ...
