The number of high school teens who say they are sexually active has dropped "substantially" for the first time in two decades, the federal government said yesterday.
The percentage of "sexually experienced" high school students fell from 54.1 percent in 1991 to 48.4 percent in 1997, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
This 10.5 percent drop is "an important milestone," said Lloyd Kolbe, director of the CDC's division on adolescent health.
It means that "students who haven't engaged in sexual intercourse now can say they are in the majority," he said.
