Antwerp is worth a visit with or without the Van Dyck summer.
I was drawn to the city decades ago when a conductor on a train from Amsterdam to Paris announced with gusto, "Antwerpen! Antwerpen! Antwerpen!"
The Flemish name of the city still sounds more exciting than the English "Antwerp" or the French "Anvers."
Flanders - Antwerp is its principal city - is the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium - as opposed to Wallonia and Brussels, where French is the major language, and a small section in the east, where German is spoken. In Antwerp, the American tourist probably hears more English than French.
