NEW YORK - The newly refurbished galleries of Greek art in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art have been hailed by one prominent critic as "the most spectacular space to be opened in New York City since the renovation of Grand Central Terminal."
Lured by such superlatives, visitors have been coming to see the rooms and their contents in record numbers - up to 10,000 a day, according to museum officials. The off-white "cool" sheen of the gallery space is especially refreshing in hot weather.
As the critic suggested, our senses can more easily relate to the handsome interior than to the significance of those mysterious pieces of marble, stone, bronze, ...
