Dear Sgt. Shaft:
The American soldier is actually discouraged from paying tribute to fallen comrades in Arlington Cemetery. The powers that be made it tough for the military, either active duty or retired, to visit their old buddies who are buried in the nation's most famous national cemetery. Most of us older soldiers have too many pals there.
It used to be a simple matter of driving into the cemetery from Fort Myer, Va. But now, when you try to visit, you are refused entry and told that you must drive around the outside of the cemetery some five miles to get a pass to visit your old comrades.
