Margaret Hemenway and Bradford Phillips' Nov. 16 letter, "It's time for the United States to stand up for UNITA," is a deliberate and dangerous mischaracterization of events in Angola. Their views are a throwback to the Cold War and do not serve the interests of promoting peace and reconciliation that Angolans are working hard to achieve. Allow me to set the record straight on some of the more egregious points raised.
