U.S. Office Products Co., with an appetite for small companies undiminished by a three-year buying binge that has turned it into a $4 billion retail colossus, is putting itself on an exercise program.
In a move intended to shift the focus from acquisitions to the day-to-day running of the company, founder Jonathan Ledekcy will turn over control to Tom Morgan, the chief operating officer, it was announced yesterday.
"It's becoming more and more obvious that the acquisitions are becoming less and less of the total numbers we report," Mr. Ledecky said. "Clearly, we're moving from an acquisitions company and more to an operating company."
