If only Johnny Appleseed could see me now. A self-confessed novice at apple picking, I take Lynn Moore's challenge to pick one of her tree's dangling apples without sending any others splatting to the ground.
It's not as easy as it looks, and it's even harder with Miss Moore looking on. To this president of Larriland Farm (and daughter of Larry Moore) these orchards in Woodbine, Md., are, well, the apple of her eye.
"You can't just look at an apple and tell if it's ripe," says the apple connoisseur. "You get one that's premature - tastes like a potato."
