For 30 years, Marv Albert has been as much a part of the New York Knicks as Madison Square Garden. For seven years, his play-by-play style and trademark "Yessss!" were an NBA standard on NBC and local broadcasts.
But one night in an Arlington hotel room and four days in a courtroom have radically altered the broadcaster's future.
Mr. Albert, 54, pleaded guilty yesterday to assault and battery after prosecutors threw out a forced-sodomy charge that resulted from an encounter at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City last February. He will be sentenced Oct. 24 and could face up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
