October is Breast Cancer Month, and it seems fitting that cultural icon Murphy Brown should find a lump in her breast.
Starting with the Oct. 8 episode of the CBS comedy "Murphy Brown," the single mom who drew Dan Quayle's ire in 1992, discovers the potentially fatal bump.
"How can I be sick?" asks Miss Brown, played by Candice Bergen. "This doesn't make sense.
"It never does," says her doctor, played by Rita Moreno. "You have to remember breast cancer is doable."
"Doable" is a relative term, Miss Brown discovers. In last week's episode, she consults six specialists, learns about breast implants and ends up cracking jokes ...
