It has something to do with cows and effect, no doubt. The bovine got a bum rap. Mrs. O'Leary's cow was innocent - maybe even framed by the tabloids.
Just in time for the 126th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire, the Chicago City Council this week cleared Katherine O'Leary's cow, Daisy, of arson charges. Daisy did not kick over the lantern which caused the three-day blaze back in 1871.
It was Peg Leg Sullivan.
That's the conclusion of Richard Bales of Chicago Title Insurance Co., after going through thousands of documents, historic maps and eyewitness accounts of the conflagration that killed 300 persons and left 100,000 homeless.
