Rebecca Hoffberger, director and founder of the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, says that many people ask her why the museum didn't wait to open its current exhibit, "The End Is Near!," until the end of the millennium. She spoke about this with one of the artists in the show, Frank Bruno.
"Frank said, `No way. We have to get the word out now,'" Miss Hoffberger recounts.
Both the subject of the show, which is subtitled "Visions of Apocalypse, Millennium and Utopia," and the peculiar urgency with which some of the artists deliver their messages, seem uniquely appropriate to this museum.
