The human mouth can only distinguish four tastes: salt, sour, bitter and sweet. Of them, sweet is the most pleasurable.
Imagine a love scene. When eyes full of passion meet and loving arms enfold, do we hear murmured salty, sour and bitter terms of endearment? Hardly. Lovers whisper sweet nothings, share sweet memories and call each other sweetheart or honey.
From the dawn of time, honey has been humanity's universal sweetening agent. The gooey stuff was so highly prized that the Bible compares it to the word of God: "How sweet are thy words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth" - Psalm 119.
