ANNAPOLIS - Less than a day after the state legislature guaranteed an income tax cut to Marylanders, a top Democrat raised the prospect of increasing other taxes.
"I think all of us know in our hearts taxes will have to go up if we are to meet our unmet needs," House Speaker Casper Taylor, Allegany County Democrat, said yesterday.
"It's politically incorrect for me to say these things before an election, but it's honest," he said.
The General Assembly, which wrapped up late Monday, passed a five-year, 10 percent cut in personal income taxes, the first cut in three decades.
