It was distressing to read your May 20 Embassy Row news item "Another year of Cyprus."
As a Turkish Cypriot, I have the hope that 1997 will be a good turning point for Cyprus. However, it was astonishing for me to see that you emphasized only the Greek Cypriot view, crediting so-called "Ambassador" Andros Nicolaides' views as those of all Cypriots.
In 1963, the Greek Cypriots usurped the 1960 Cyprus Republic by expelling Turkish Cypriots from all the administrative organs by force of arms. The Greek Cypriots have since been trying to make the world believe in this illegitimacy. Mr. Nicolaides cannot give speeches using the title Ambassador of ...
