Curious duplications keep haunting the fall movie season. The least auspicious has been the persistence of incest as a melodramatic gotcha.
The most prevalent duplication this weekend is the family Thanksgiving reunion, a portentous pivotal event in not only "The House of Yes," but also "The Myth of Fingerprints" and "The Ice Storm." Fortunately, one reunion easily outclasses the others: "The Ice Storm," entrusted to an accomplished director, Ang Lee of "Eat Drink Man Woman" and "Sense and Sensibility." His sensibility elevates a pretext that could easily bog down in derivative, superficial domestic heartbreak and allegory.
