The White House, admitting it kept reporters in the dark when the president was rushed to a Florida hospital after tripping down stairs, has instituted new rules to keep the press informed of emergency presidential movement.
"Everything that happened should have, but not as fast as it should have. We're changing that," said White House spokesman Michael McCurry.
President Clinton on March 14, about 90 minutes after arriving at pro golfer Greg Norman's Florida beach ranch, tore a tendon in his right knee when he slipped on dimly lit steps at 1:30 a.m. Minutes later, he was rushed to nearby St. Mary's Medical Center.
