Two prominent D.C.-area tennis executives, Ray Benton and Sara Fornaciari, are on the short list of insiders for the top job in women's tennis. The new CEO of the WTA Tour will move in at the end of the year, around the time when the men's and women's tours could be hard at work on a revolutionary plan to merge.
Benton - a former ProServ partner - now runs the Nuveen Tour, which he founded in 1993 with client Jimmy Connors. More significantly, Benton serves as the representative to the top 25 women's players on the WTA Tour board of directors.
