Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin W. Edwards, an obvious target of a widespread federal investigation into gambling, bribery, extortion and assorted other frauds, will appear before a New Orleans federal grand jury today.
He refused to say whether he will invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination but hinted that he may.
"I've never taken the Fifth in my life, but then I was a public official and felt I had an obligation to the public to testify," he said Friday. "I may take a different view now."
