As the big auto show season of 1996 is winding down - following Los Angeles, Detroit and Chicago, only the huge New York Auto Show remains - and the trend is obvious. Trucks are taking over.
It seems that all the activity at the auto shows involved trucks of some sort with sport/utility vehicles leading the way. The excitement and hoopla that was once reserved only for the hottest sports cars is now being lavished on boxy vehicles with all-wheel drive; and the car buyers are responding. They are buying sport/utility vehicles, minivans and pickup trucks in record numbers.
