A recent army mutiny in the Central African Republic, a Texas-size state in the heart of Africa, has demonstrated once again that France is ready to intervene in its former colonies at the drop of a franc.
Despite recurrent complaints from Paris about its having to shoulder the burden of keeping Africa stable, the government of President Jacques Chirac wasted no time in coming to the rescue of the troubled government of a former colony.
The intervention to end the mutiny was welcomed by Central African Republic President Ange-Felix Patasse and accepted grudgingly by the mutinous soldiers, who rose up against the government because they were not getting ...
