Snowbanks and temperatures that didn't climb past the teens couldn't stop tourists from taking a walk around the Mall in yesterday's bright sunshine to view the monuments in wintry splendor.

The weather was no impediment to area aiports, which claimed excellent conditions yesterday despite the frigid temperatures.

And the freeze was not deep enough to stop D.C. parking-ticket writers, who were back on the street with a vengeance yesterday, ticketing cars in spaces often deep in snowbanks, on streets untouched by snowplows.

But the cold may yet put a crimp in daily Washington life as commuters head to work this morning.
