In "Prophet of Rage," his new biography of Louis Farrakhan, Arthur J. Magida recalls the 1984 trip to Syria that the Nation of Islam leader took with the Rev. Jesse Jackson to negotiate the release of a downed black Navy pilot. "Farrakhan's presence on the trip - and his relationship with Jackson in general - was barely noted by the press," he writes. "He was just a throwaway line in the stories about the trip. No big headlines. No big deal. No big stink. Just a `Black Muslim' leader tagging along on Jackson's mission of mercy."
What a difference 12 years makes. Since then, the subject of throwaway lines can't seem to stay out of the news. And this book ...
