What you can't see, taste or smell can sometimes hurt you.
That was the case one recent frigid night, when 80 residents of Parker House, an apartment building in Chillum, had to be evacuated because people were getting sick.
The culprit, however, was not the flu or even Legionnaire's disease.
It was carbon monoxide.
The gas was seeping into apartments from a malfunctioning furnace.
"It was a combination of problems," says Mark Brady, spokesman for the Prince George's County Fire Department. "The natural gas that fuels the furnace wasn't burning properly, creating an excess of carbon monoxide. There also was a hole in ...
