Federal Aviation Administration officials have threatened to punish agency employees who gave The Washington Times figures on the Atlanta air traffic center's poor record of keeping flights safely separated.
"Managers here are saying, `Heads are going to roll if we find out who gave out those figures,' " said one FAA headquarters employee who asked not to be named.
On Monday, The Washington Times reported that the Atlanta center had compiled the worst record among the nation's 22 air traffic centers of so-called "operational errors" - allowing aircraft to fly closer than FAA rules allow.
