SANTA CLARA, Calif. - An Olympic athlete and a doctor. They are two occupations requiring incredible dedication, hard work and long years of training. It seems difficult to imagine one person accomplishing both feats.
But for Olympic swimmer Kurt Grote, they are the bookends of his life.
In Atlanta, Grote will compete in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter breaststroke, where he is favored to win a medal.
After the Olympics, Grote will have about a month off before returning to Stanford, where he received his undergraduate degree, to begin medical school. A quick lifestyle change, but Grote takes it in stride.
