When the U.S. women's gymnastics team begins competition July 21 in Atlanta, two differences will set it apart from past squads.
First, the Americans will have a squad with maturity and experience, and second, they might actually be able to win the gold medal, breaking the Soviet/Russian streak that dates back to 1952.
It has been 20 years - a dozen generations in gymnastics terms - since as many as three Americans not only remained in the sport to try for another Olympics, but actually qualified for a second team.
