Starting today, law-abiding Texans with proper permits will be allowed to carry concealed weapons for the first time in 125 years.
Texas is one of 28 states nationally that now have "right to carry" laws on the books, and most others are considering them, according to David McDowall, a professor of criminology at the University of Maryland.
He identified Michigan and Ohio as two states that have have recently held legislative hearings on bills allowing residents to carry firearms to protect themselves in an increasingly dangerous society.
