The chairman of the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee said yesterday that the White House may have sought secret FBI background files on more than the 339 Reagan and Bush administration officials disclosed so far, and he wants congressional hearings to find out.
Rep. William F. Clinger, citing changing stories from the White House on its receipt in 1993 and 1994 of the confidential files, said hearings into the matter could begin next week.
