This week's 26th annual BASS Masters Classic will attract the media from as far away as Japan for a variety of reasons.
For starters, it's not earth-shattering news to hear that sport fishing in the United States is big business. In this country, the people who list fishing as their primary recreational activity outnumber those who prefer golf and tennis combined.
Sport fishing commands the loyalty of 60 million-plus Americans; golf, 24 million; tennis, 17.3 million. Why presidential candidates do not go after people who fish is a mystery. If fishermen ever voted in one solid block they could elect Donald Duck president.
