Your Feb. 9 news article, "China tells U.S. to stop selling arms to Taiwan," states that the United States immediately rejected China's appeal to end arms deliveries to Taiwan. That comes as no surprise, for the United States is legally committed through Section 2(b)(4) of the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 "to provide Taiwan with arms of a defensive character." But what can the United States do to reduce the current tension in the Taiwan Strait?
