Lightning scares me. There, I've said it, and I'm glad I did.
Imagine being in a tin boat, a motor hanging on the transom that isn't strong enough to get out of its own way, and the distant thunder you've heard now rapidly approaches you. The thunderstorm soon is accompanied by bolts of lightning that zap the ground - or water - somewhere nearby.
It's enough to make a body want to switch to bowling or some other benign indoor activity. But I'm hooked on fishing and so is Conan, one of my fishing pals who was with me recently during just such an incident. Neither of us wanted to be the first to say, "Let's get the heck out of here."
