Team owners from the three Class AAA leagues - the International League, American Association and Pacific Coast League - voted Wednesday to dissolve the eight-team American Association and create two new superleagues: a 14-team International League and a 16-team league yet to be named.
The restructuring not only expands the number of opponents teams will face each season, but it opens the door for a possible Class AAA World Series.
The new setup, approved by each league, goes into effect next season when two new Class AAA franchises - Durham, N.C., and Memphis, Tenn. - begin play along with the two new major league franchises, the Tampa Bay Devil ...
