The Clinton administration yesterday granted permission to 10 U.S.-based news organizations to open bureaus in Havana, saying the increased media coverage would help bring peaceful, democratic change to Cuba.
"News gathering and reporting by U.S. news organizations will keep international attention focused on the situation in Cuba and on the realities of economic and political conditions there," White House Press Secretary Michael McCurry said.
CNN is the only one of the 10 organizations that has been granted permission by Cuba to open a bureau. Officials in Havana yesterday were quoted as saying there would be no great rush to grant permission for ...
