For days now, Joan Cooper Stanley of Arlington has been "shredding paper and shedding tears."
Still, the veteran community service technician for the Arlington County Police Department also has collected many gifts and tokens of gratitude for a distinguished public service career. So many such remembrances, now packed away in cardboard boxes, that she had to rent a storage bin for $70 a month.
"I just couldn't throw all my things away," said Mrs. Stanley, ever mindful of her unique role in the Nauck-Green Valley community as residents' critical link to the county government's service providers.
