The Planned Parenthood Federation of America enjoyed a 5 percent rise in total income during the last fiscal year despite the closings of 38 clinics, the loss of 4,000 staffers and volunteers, and drops in birth-control customers and sex education participants at its facilities.
The news is in Planned Parenthood's 1995-96 annual report, a copy of which was obtained by STOPP International, a New York-based pro-life group whose goal is to shut down Planned Parenthood.
Gloria Feldt, Planned Parenthood's new president, confirmed the information in a telephone interview. "We've been through some very tough times," she said.
