First things first: I live in Washington next door to a bakery, but I walk seven blocks to buy my bread and pastries at Firehook.
I haven't complained about the walk, and guests have only raved about being served Firehook bread or cake.
As for my favorite, well, don't ask. Usually the best is whatever I am eating, but I am looking forward to cooler weather and, hopefully, the return of some of last winter's finds at Firehook: Russian black bread and Swedish limpa, in particular. They are fine as is, but a little butter is mighty good on either, and there's nothing wrong with smoked salmon or caviar on the Russian black.
