The new leaders of Fairfax County's Republican Party yesterday vowed to fight a proposed real estate tax increase and said they intend to make the issue a political one.
County GOP Chairman Joe Underwood and Vice Chairman James Parmelee, both elected Saturday, agreed the party has said little about the tax increase thus far but warned of a full assault on the $1.69 billion budget proposed by County Executive William Leidinger.
"In fact, I would support a tax cut," said Mr. Parmelee. "I'm hoping if the party stands firm against it, that will help our elected Republicans stand against it."
