The Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith is accused of hypocrisy and political correctness after its unsuccessful attempt to overturn an independent judging panel's award for a book about Polish Gentiles who helped Jews during World War II.
World War II historian Stanley Lukas' "Did the Children Cry?" won the ADL's Janusz Korczak Literary Competition in December.
But the ADL, which said the book overestimated the help Poles gave Jews and underestimated the extent of Polish anti-Semitism, tried to block the award, relenting only after the threat of a lawsuit.
