As most readers already know, ESPN's Tom Mees passed away in a tragic accident recently.
In 1970, I had the unusual privilege to work closely with Tom. He was sports director of Delaware's campus radio station, WHEN, when I was sports editor of the campus newspaper, the Review. Through my own perspective, I would like to reinforce the tributes that have been to given to Tom.
The best way to describe Tom's personality is a likeable Howard Cosell. Cosell, who was in the early stages of his run on "Monday Night Football," sometimes was given the monicker "Univac" - a reference to his encyclopedic knowledge that he was not bashful about recalling.
