The proposed Washington Convention Center would be an economic boon for the District, bringing $110 million in taxes to the city and $1 billion in spending on hotels, restaurants, stores and services annually, according to supporters of the project.

But those supporters worry that the project will be delayed as it wends its way through the approval process and various public officials weigh its pluses and drawbacks. Certainly, the project appears to have a strong financing mechanism through increases in the hotel and restaurant taxes. But some may find fault either with the location or the design of the building.
