Michelangelo Buonarroti: This great Italian Renaissance artist still inspires awe and wonder today.
He was named after the warrior archangel Michael, and both wielded powerful swords - the biblical angel as the guardian of Israel, the artist through his great achievements in sculpture, painting and architecture.
