An investigation into drug use by guards at the Marine Corps brig in Quantico has led to criminal charges against 11 Marines in the base's security battalion.
The command discovered the problem in June, when a guard in outpatient alcohol treatment admitted drug use. He began accusing other brig personnel of using and distributing marijuana and LSD.
The 150-bed prison in Virginia is the armed forces' Northeast regional brig. Its inmates include an Army sergeant accused of raping female trainees at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. Normally at 80 percent capacity, the brig houses prisoners serving terms of up to five years.
