To call Leipzig a boom town takes emphasis away from its history and importance in trade, music, religion and politics, but Leipzig is second only to Berlin in having the most construction work in any German city in the past five years.
The sight of so many cranes and construction fences and the sounds of builders at work make this boom obvious. "Leipzig kommt" bumper stickers proclaim that "Leipzig is coming," and the yellow-and-black "Leipzig steht auf" signs on billboards and construction sites advise that "Leipzig is rising."
